15 of the deadliest duets in history

A serial killer working alone is terrifying, but a pair of killers is twice as scary.

Some people are drawn to each other because of a shared sense of humor, a love of the outdoors, or an interest in politics. Some people end up bonding over their passion for travel, sharing classes at school, or talent for cooking.

Then, there are some people who find a partner for life who shares their sickest, most twisted desires; Another angry and perverted soul like her. another has fatal whims and desires; But it just needs someone special to push them from thinking to action. A serial killer working alone is terrifying, but a pair of killers is twice as scary. While many of the murderous duos on this list were romantically involved before they became partners in crime, others were related by blood and others found each other simply by accident, striking up a friendship that allowed them to commit their most horrible deeds. Someone next to them to beat them.

While half of this duo may have already dipped a toe into the criminal waters, it took combining their evil energy with someone else’s to really push them over the edge. On their own, they might have been caught more quickly, killed less, or perhaps not killed at all. Yet together they managed to bring their sick fantasies to life, breathing, and bloody color.

1 Erik & Lyle Menendez

15 of the deadliest duets in history

One of the most notorious cases was in the early 1990s when brothers Eric and Lyle Menendez were convicted of killing their parents purely out of greed. In 1989 Beverly Hills, the brothers carefully plan their murders, wanting to get rid of their strict father and empower their mother. The brothers shoot their parents in the lair, throw down their murder weapons, and buy movie tickets so they can have an alibi, pretending to wait to see License to Kill before choosing Batman instead. (It is possible that the jury was not missing the irony.) Lyle later called the police to say that his parents had died and the boys were immediately suspected.

Their greed didn’t help matters. Almost immediately, the brothers began shelling out an obscene amount of cash, spending about $1 million in the first six months after the death. Although the defense claimed that the Menendez brothers suffered years of physical and sexual abuse, the jury did not believe them and the two brothers remain in separate prisons for life without the possibility of parole.

2 Charles Starkweather & Caril Ann Fugate

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Inspired by movies like Badlands and Natural Born Killers (which influenced killers Jeremey Steinke and Jasmine Richardson, mentioned above), Charles Starkweather and his young girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate, went on a killing spree that saw 11 people killed.

Starkweather was 19 when he met 14-year-old Foggati. Unsurprisingly, her parents did not approve of the relationship. In order to be together (sound familiar?), Starkweather shot and killed Fogat’s father and stepmother, before strangling and stabbing her little half-sister. Phogat was not shocked when she came home to see their bodies. She even watched TV while Starkweather made sandwiches and wrapped the corpses in newspaper. And so they began a 60-day cross-country spree before being caught on the Wyoming Trail. Foggat immediately threw her older lover under the bus, shouting to a deputy sheriff that Starkweather was going to kill her. In the end, Starkweather was executed at the age of 20, while Foggat was sentenced to life in prison. She served 17 years before being released on parole in 1976.

3 Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold

15 of the deadliest duets in history

The Columbine High School massacre is an event that was on everyone’s mind for years in the 1990s and is still discussed as one of the most vicious shootings to this day. Much of the Columbine shooting and the stories of the boys who caused it have become myth and legend, but the truth is that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were not misunderstood. They were deeply disturbed.

Harris and Klebold had been planning their massacre for a long time, and while many of their sympathizers tried to claim they had been bullied for years, research has proven that they were mostly bullies and by no means isolated in their school. They also had severe psychological problems, including paranoia, depression, and suicidal tendencies. The two attempted to develop bombs to detonate any student trying to exit the school, and while those bombs wore off, they managed to kill 13 and wound 24 before finally shooting themselves.

4 Jeremy Steinke & Jasmine Richardson

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Another killer duo that took on the family, this killer couple made papers and history, due to Jasmine Richardson’s age. You see, at the time, Richardson was only 12 years old when she made Canadian history as the youngest person in the country to be tried for multiple murders. Looking older than her age, Richardson met 23-year-old Stinky at the mall, where they bonded over their love of music and the goth subculture. Soon after, they chose to kill her parents and younger brother in order to be together, because Richardson’s parents disapproved of the relationship. Drunk, Steinke breaks into the Richardson home, where he kills Richardson’s father and mother, leaving his young lover to stab her brother. The couple considered the latter a “mercy killing” because Richardson’s eight-year-old brother was too sensitive to live an orphan.

While Steinke was given twenty-five years before the possibility of parole, Richardson, due to her younger age, was released ten years later, in 2016. Despite being the mastermind behind the deadly operation, the now-old Richardson walks free.

5 Paul Bernardo & Karla Homolka

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Known as the “Ken and Barbie Killers”, this killer Canadian duo on our list is due to their good looks, lavish lifestyle, and lethal relationship. Paul Bernardo had already begun his criminal career before he met Carla Homolka. As Scarborough R*t housekeeper, he enters women’s homes, where he beats and beats them. After meeting Homolka, the pair prove to be toxic with each other.

With three victims in total, including Homolka’s sister (whom she gave to Bernardo as a Christmas gift), the pair videotaped their horrific antics, showing that Homolka (despite her pleas to the contrary) was a largely willing participant. The video shows the pair drugging Leslie Mahaffy and Christine French, assaulting them in various ways and eventually killing them. The case made headlines across the country, and Homolka claims she was threatened and coerced into helping Bernardo, because their relationship was abusive. In order to obtain a plea bargain and reduce her sentence, Homolka testified against her husband, eventually allowing her to walk freely while Bernardo remained at the Millhaven Institution.

6 Gwendolyn Graham & Cathy Wood

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Engaging in rough activities in the bedroom is totally fine, as long as both parties agree to it. Apparently, frugality between the sheets wasn’t enough for Gwendolyn Graham and Cathy Wood, who later proceeded to murder the elderly patients who were staying at the nursing home where they both worked!

With a total of five victims by the end, the first victim was an Alzheimer’s patient, who was strangled and then copulated next to them. This became a pattern for all of their subsequent victims. As they became more efficient at killing, the pair would take away souvenirs and brag about their misdeeds to their co-workers, who didn’t believe them. Things took a turn when the couple fell out over their next victim, which led to a breakup. Eventually, the two turned on each other, with Wood claiming that she only acted as a bodyguard for Graham, and Graham saying the murders were part of a mind game devised by Wood. Since Wood confessed to the crimes first, she received a lighter sentence of 20 years in prison for her confession, while Graham received a life sentence.

7 Alton Coleman & Debra Brown

15 of the deadliest duets in history

The killing spree only lasted two months. However, in that short period of time, Alton Coleman and Debra Brown traveled across six states, murdered eight people, kidnapped three, and committed 14 armed robberies.

Coleman was alleged to be the mastermind behind these murders, due to his criminal history, which he had known to the police prior to the murders. Brown, on the other hand, was considered intellectually disabled with a dependent personality disorder that made her the ideal assistant to the sadistic Colman. Almost all of their murders were committed by strangulation, but many of their victims were found beaten and assaulted beforehand. One particularly sick detail of the couple’s crime spree was the racial motives underlying it. All but one of their targets were African Americans, with Coleman even blaming black people for forcing him to commit these atrocities and leaving a note in lipstick in the place of the surviving victim, who was not African American. Coleman was executed in 2002 and Brown was sentenced to life in prison. Only in 2005 did she show remorse for her crimes.

8 Raymond Fernandez & Martha Beck

15 of the deadliest duets in history

The killer duo who got their own nickname, Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck became known as the “Lonely Hearts Killers” because they teamed up to woo lonely women, only to rob and kill them! Using personal ads, the pair would pose as single men looking for love, conning and trapping naive women (Beck knew exactly what to say, given her penchant for reading romance novels and magazines).

While Beck was infatuated with Fernandez and jealous of any woman who slept with him as part of their scheme, she pretended to be his sister to appear more respectful, though the two often spoke of the great love they had for each other. Eventually, though, Beck’s temper begins to lead the duo and instead of just robbing their victims, they decide to kill them as well. Shortly after the murders began, it was the death of a widow and her child that brought the police to their door; After being found guilty of killing about 20 people, both Beck and Fernandez were sentenced to death by electric chair.

9 Kenneth Bianchi & Angelo Buono

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Although their murderous career began with three prostitutes whose bodies were dumped in the Hollywood Hills, it was after the deaths of five young women who weren’t “working girls” that cousins Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono earned their nickname, the “Hillside Stranglers.” “

Naturally, because of their names, the cousins chose to strangle their victims (10 in all) between October 1977 and February 1978. At first, the pair teamed up to make some money by pimping young women, with Buono apparently the mastermind behind the operation; Although Bianchi later committed two murders and murders of his own. All of their victims are women. They were all strangled and tortured before their bodies were dumped. One of these victims was also injected with Windex, although at first it looked like signs of drug use. Once they were caught and tried, Bianchi tried to plead insanity, but he was determined to fake it. Both men were sentenced to life in prison in the most expensive court case in California history at the time.

10 Henry Lee Lucas & Ottis Toole

15 of the deadliest duets in history

It’s a pretty big contradiction to have a victim of between five and 600, but it seems to depend on his story (and any lies) you believe. Henry Lee Lucas and Otis Toole met in 1973 at a soup kitchen and became lovers soon after. Their killing spree continued for about a decade, until Lucas stupidly bragged about what he had done while in prison on a weapons charge, and Toole was jailed for arson. Once the can of worms was opened, the men began to confess to a series of horrific murders they had committed, claiming to be members of a cult. They had some details that only the killer in question would have known, but their changing stories and backsliding blurred the truth.

Fortunately, some good has come from the couple’s extensive confessions. They were able to help the police identify the 246 missing persons, but their other confessions were sometimes false and other times retracted. Enough said, though, and Toole was found guilty of five murders, Lucas of 11. They were sentenced to death, which was commuted to life in prison. Both men died of natural causes.

11 Leonard Lake & Charles Ng

15 of the deadliest duets in history

A lot of serial killers start to display disturbing behaviors at a young age, and that couldn’t be more true for the killer duo of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng. As a child, Lake enjoyed dissolving rats in chemicals while Eng preferred stealing and setting things on fire. Lake also had a perverted attitude towards s*x and would photograph his sister naked and blackmail her for sexual favors.

Both men had been arrested by the FBI for firearms violations, and once released, sought each other out to launch their serial killer careers. Identified as one of the survivors, Lake builds a hideout that the two use to torture and kill their victims. But they did not simply target women. Sometimes, men would kidnap and kill entire families. To top it off, they captured the whole thing on film.

In the end, it was Ng’s theft that led to the undoing, and once Lik was arrested for trying to pay for his partner’s stolen goods, he secretly took a cyanide pill, slipped into a coma, and died. Ng was prosecuted for the murders of 11 people, although the police put the number at up to 25, due to remains found in the hideout. He is currently on death row.

12 Delfina & Maria Gonzales

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Having grown up in poverty and abuse, sisters Delfina and María González only had each other when they moved to San Francisco del Rincon and opened a salon to alleviate their crushing fear of being poor. They also decided to create a prostitution network, which is how they lured their victims before killing them mercilessly.

Using classified ads and targeting young girls who were like themselves (poor and alone), the Gonzalez sisters were promised security and freedom before trapping these young women into a life of prostitution. However, the girls they imprisoned were not always trusted. If a charter girl becomes pregnant, the sisters force her to have an abortion and bury the fetuses on their farm. Then they began to kill girls if they fell ill, refused a client, or contracted sexually transmitted diseases.

Various methods of killing were used for their victims – from starvation to beatings. The bodies were often dumped into shallow mass graves. The men who had come for their services were not immune from the sisters’ wrath either. If they had a large amount of money on them, they were killed on the spot. In all, the sisters killed 91 people.

13 Ian Brady & Myra Hindley

15 of the deadliest duets in history

It’s never a good idea to deal with a neo-Nazi. But apparently, Myra Hindley never got the memo when she became infatuated with Ian Brady. Obsessed with the Nazi regime, Brady gives Hindley books on the subject, influencing her with his radical philosophies, encouraging her to dye her hair blonde to suit his Aryan ideals, and soon begins discussing how to commit the perfect murder. The two soon became embroiled in the killing spree in 1963 and chose to harm innocent people – children.

Hindley killed five in all, first luring their victims to the couple’s car, where they were sexually assaulted, before they were murdered and buried in graves dug on Saddleworth Moor, earning them the name “The Moor Killers”. One of the victim’s throats was violently slashed, nearly decapitating her.

Brady was arrested first, in 1965, and Hindley was charged only days later after Brady was seen bludgeoning a child to death with an axe. After a trial that saw both lie repeatedly without remorse, they were sentenced to life in prison, with Hindley dying in 2002 and Brady being transferred to a mental hospital after being declared criminally insane.

The couple became a whirlwind of sexual violence and eventually kidnapped and murdered 10 young women between 1978 and 1980. Some of the victims were as young as 13. sx slaves. While Gerald initially fondles their victims alone, for hours on end, Charlene later participates in the brutalities. They also bury a pregnant woman alive.

Gerald, after being sentenced to death, died of rectal cancer in 2002.

15 Fred & Rosemary West

15 of the deadliest duets in history

Killing anonymous victims is one thing entirely, but killing your own children after subjecting them to a lifetime of physical and sexual violence is another. The Perfect Couple of How Not to Act Fred and Rosemary West were a twisted couple who joined forces to create a deadly combination that saw the torture and murder of at least 10 victims.

Their relationship was based on incest, prostitution, and violence, and they saw both partners as willing participants in their atrocities. Both had a violently ill upbringing, with Fred claiming his father had introduced him to incest and bestiality while Rosemary was repeatedly mauled by her father well into adulthood. At one point, while Fred was in prison, Rosemary killed his stepdaughter after the child did not cry during the beating, and the couple later killed their daughter and faked her disappearance to their other children. In the end, it was the disappearance of this daughter (who by then had been missing for seven years) that led to the police arriving at 25 Cromwell Street, and arresting one of the deadliest couples in history. While in prison, Fred hanged himself while Rosemary remains serving a life sentence to this day.
