The report stated that Squid Game star Oh Young-soo has been charged with sexual misconduct

“Squid Game” star Oh Young-soo has been indicted on charges of sexual misconduct, Yonhap news agency reported.

The South Korean news agency, citing unnamed officials, reported on Friday that the 78-year-old actor was indicted without arrest on Thursday by the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the report, while the case was opened in December 2021, when the accused filed a complaint with the police, the indictment stems from allegations that Oh inappropriately touched a woman in 2017.

The police were said to have closed the case in April without filing any charges before the prosecution reopened the investigation at the accused’s request. The report said Oh denied the accusations during the investigation.

Representatives for Oh and South Korea’s Supreme Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Oh is best known for his role as an elderly rival Oh Il-Nam in the popular Netflix series “Squid Game”.

The role led the actor to win a Golden Globe earlier this year for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In September, he was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The Squid Game proved to be an instant hit last year much to the surprise of many including Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

Last year, Oh told South Korean TV show How Do I Play that he was struggling to keep up with the number of calls he was receiving about acting opportunities after appearing on the hit show.

“I feel like I’m flying on air. It makes me think, ‘I need to calm down, organize my thoughts, and swing myself right now,'” he said, according to South Korean outlet Soompi. I had to deal with the volume of calls and messages I received, so my daughter was helping me.”
